Building the 160 km (100 miles) long railway from the city of Boden to Haparanda on the Swedish-Finnish border took a mere 16 years - one of the slowest developing railway projects in the Swedish history! Finally ready, the First World War broke out. Suddenly, the railway was in a geopolitical center, being the road to Finland and Russia for spies and politicians, officers and journalists.
